By law, cases with criminal or statutory concerns (e.g., homicide, suicide, etc.) will be referred to the Coroner or Medical Examiner’s office.
If:
- you are a Coroner within Illinois
- you have a case that does not meet state criteria for evaluation
- you have a family that is still interested in obtaining an autopsy for closure
- and it is within your legal discretion
